What is a Predator MDC Adapter?

Predator MDC Adapters are an affordable solution for hardware based machine monitoring and data collection. Predator MDC Adapters support a wide range of CNC machines, robots, PLCs, test stands and other shop floor equipment. Input voltage levels can vary per digital input, but should match the machine. Powering Predator MDC Adapters directly from a machine, robot or CMM

Experienced electricians or maintenance personnel can alternatively power Predator MDC Adapters directly from a machine, robot or CMM via two methods. The first alternative method utilizes the included circuit breaker. Simply repurpose the power cord that is included and wire it directly to the machine's power supply. The Predator circuit breaker supports a range of power between 100 - 240 volts. The second alternative method bypasses the Predator circuit breaker and requires a regulated 24 volt DC power source that is wired directly into the Predator MDC Adapter. The machine's 24 volt supply should support 0.5 to 1.5 amps. In terms of power consumption, Predator MDC Adapters consume 120mA with each additional I/O expansion module consuming an additional 80mA.

NOTE: With the POE (Power Over Ethernet) option, the above alternative methods do not apply since the Predator MDC Adapter is powered via a POE enabled Ethernet hub or switch.

Installation of Predator MDC Adapters

Experienced electricians or maintenance personnel are responsible for identifying electrical signals for cycling, machine alarm and other signals as desired. These signals must be labeled and wired to an orange Wago connector that is included with every Predator MDC Adapter. The orange Wago connector establishes a line of demarcation. Customers are responsible for wiring machine signals to the female Wago connector. When Predator Onsite Services are utilized, Predator Field Service personnel are responsible for wiring, operation and installation of the Predator MDC Adapter up to the male orange Wago connector. This line of demarcation establishes a single border of responsibility and addresses any concerns over warranty, installation and operation. Predator MDC Adapters operate as a separate isolated 24 volt DC based circuit from the CNC machine, robot or CMM.
